Tax Residency Certificate Services in the UAE
UAE Tax Residency Certificate Services
A Tax Residency Certificate (TRC), also known as a Tax Domicile Certificate, is an official document issued by the UAE Federal Tax Authority (FTA) to eligible individuals and companies that meet the applicable UAE tax residency requirements.
A UAE TRC can be used to support an individual’s or company’s claim of UAE tax residency and may be relevant when applying the provisions of a Double Taxation Agreement (DTA) between the UAE and another country.
At ASCENDRA, we assist individuals, investors, entrepreneurs and companies with the preparation and application process for obtaining a UAE Tax Residency Certificate.

Tax Residency & Double Taxation Agreements
The UAE has entered into numerous Double Taxation Agreements with other countries. These agreements are designed to determine how certain types of income may be taxed when an individual or company has connections with more than one jurisdiction.
However, obtaining a UAE Tax Residency Certificate does not automatically guarantee tax exemption or treaty benefits in another country. The foreign jurisdiction may apply additional requirements, including domestic tax residency rules, substance requirements, beneficial ownership tests and treaty-specific conditions.
We therefore recommend reviewing the applicable treaty and the taxpayer’s circumstances before relying on a UAE TRC for international tax purposes.
UAE Tax Residency Certificate vs Corporate Tax Registration
A Tax Residency Certificate and Corporate Tax registration are different documents and serve different purposes.
Corporate Tax registration confirms that a UAE taxable person is registered with the FTA for Corporate Tax purposes where registration is required. A TRC, on the other hand, is used to evidence UAE tax residency for applicable purposes.
Having a UAE trade license or Corporate Tax registration does not, by itself, mean that a person automatically qualifies for a Tax Residency Certificate.
Why Obtain a UAE Tax Residency Certificate?
A UAE Tax Residency Certificate may be required for purposes such as:
- Supporting UAE tax residency status.
- Claiming applicable benefits under a Double Taxation Agreement.
- Providing evidence of tax residence to foreign tax authorities.
- Supporting applications for reduced or exempt withholding tax rates, where permitted.
- Assisting with international tax planning and cross-border transactions.
- Providing tax residency documentation to overseas banks, financial institutions or business partners.
- Supporting international investment and corporate structures.
The availability of treaty benefits depends on the applicable tax treaty and the taxpayer’s specific circumstances.
